Hello World

 Hey hi hello,

Starting a blog occurred to me at about 5am one night when I couldn’t get to sleep so who knows what will happen to it. If you have somehow found this and are reading this (I am sincerely confused as to why) then you may have some questions. Here are the random thoughts that popped into my head when I decided to do this.

1. If I know you personally, you will be delighted to know that I will be really embarrassed you found it and doubly so if you mention it to me.

2. The name comes from that fact this will mostly be a blog about my climbing (more on that in a bit), and reflecting somewhat on my journey as a climber, it seems to me that I have both ‘failed upwards’ - where I just fail at bigger and bigger things. And that my climbs generally constitute a lot of flailing.

3. Since I started climbing my mum has mentioned I have become a bit monothematic to talk to. Maybe if I get it all out here I don’t have to keep boring her with the details.

4. Finally, a lot of climbers I look up to keep/kept blogs. Eg: Nick bullock, Jonathon Griffith, Peter Graham, the Scottish Climbers blog, Simon Richardson’s Scottish Winter blog, Colin Haley, Marc-Andre Leclerc, Tom Livingstone, Dave Macleod, and I’m sure I’m forgetting at least a bunch more. Clearly the connecting factor between all of them is that they have blogs, so maybe if I start one I’ll become a wad too.

At the end of the day though this blog is mostly for me, myself, and I. A way to keep track of the journey and memories in a way that a UKC logbook just struggles to do. I’m starting it after a pretty intense year and just before starting a new job so my thinking was to write a few posts on the past whilst I have the downtime and then have this to keep the pressure on to keep active once I start the job. And yes, I know this could all be done in a private diary, but for some reason a public blog seemed like a good idea to my sleep deprived brain.

Once again, very confused as to why you would be reading this, but since your here - Enjoy!
